Makes great coffee and is easy to clean between cups, but hard to clean thoroughly. Over time, it started to smell and needed thourough cleaning. When it works, it makes very good coffee… I think they should have used a higher quality plastic…Biggest gripe is that it is a pain to clean thouroughly. I get my espresso machine. I carefully read the instructions on setting it up. I make my first espresso. The pressure gauge is a bit vague on the front of the unit, but it clearly has a range marked “Optimum.” All of the pictures in the instructions show the perfect espresso with the needle in the middle of Optimum range. However, my machine never got the needle close the to the bottom edge of the Optimum range, much less in the middle. Okay, I first think this is my fault. I must be doing something wrong. I go buy some more espresso ground coffee. I make sure I have properly tampered the grounds in the filter. I still can’t reach the bottom edge of the Optimum range. I finally called the Breville technical support. You have to leave a message and the will get back to you. Several hours later, they call me back. We go through the list of basic things that could be wrong. The representative finally puts me on hold so he can confer with someone else. He comes back on the line and says that this model has never shown the right pressure and they have fixed this problem in the model above the one I bought. Okay. Is this guy blowing me off because they don’t want to send me a working machine, or is every espresso in this model really defective on the pressure gauge? I find it strange that none of the other 4 reviewers here on Amazon mentioned the defective pressure gauge that is common to every espresso machine of this model. Were they just content their quantified sub-optimal espresso? Or were they actual reviewers? We have been using the Breville this past year with only on problem; the double shot filters can clog up and the must be replaced. A truly wonderful coffee maker. But $1,200 (what we paid)for a “coffee pot???” Is it worth it? It depends.

If you are a “StarBucks regular,” like we were, then the answer’s a resounding yes. We’ve had our B30 for 13 months. Figuring $5 a day if we’d done our usual daily “StarBucks stop,” our B30 paid for itself in nine months Now, we’re actually saving $ with it! (-:

For me, coffee is coffee; I drink it to wake up. But my wife is really into it and she thinks a brew from the B30 equals anything she’s had in Italy.

It’s really difficult to think of it being any easier. I get up and it’s already turned on. I flip the switch to “double XXL coffee” and push a button. Beans are measured and ground, pressurised hot water courses through the grinds and into my cup, grounds are dumped into an internal container and it’s ready to go again. I switch to “double expresso” and press the button again. That whole process takes less than 1 1/2 minutes!

It tells you when to add water, when to empty the tray containing grounds, when to change the filter and when to clean it.

What??? For 1,200 bucks you have to CLEAN “the pot?” Yup. You drop a cleaning tablet into a port and push a button. (-:

I can’t begin to tell you how much easier this machine has made our morning.

UPDATE: It’s been 15 months and 2,699 “brews” since we bought it. STILL works flawlessly. Again, figuring four “brews” equals $5 each morning @ Starbucks (actually, we spent more but leaving the extra $ out covers the cost of beans) we’ve saved $3,373 by not going to Starbucks. We,ve recouped our original $1,200, banked $1,300 for the next one (there WILL be a next one)and have $873 LEFT OVER! Is that cool, or what? (-: Buy Bosch TCA6301UC Lowest Price, Order Now! I bought this machine refurbished as an upgrade from an inexpensive machine. I have to say “WOW”. This is a well designed system. I really love the progam feaure that allows you to brew a single or double shot just by pushing a button. No more watching until your cup is filled to the right level.
Whether using pods or ground espresso, the Breville brews as good a cup as I’ve had.
I like the all stainless steamer/frother. It is easier to clean as the end disassembles from the wand.
I haven’t had much use for the hot water feature, and if I were redesigning this unit I would leave it out.
The all stainless construction is attractive and utilitarian. Sturdy and lends itself to easy cleanup.

I just received this item promptly yesterday and began using it this morning. I am on my second shot of expresso and am loving the simplicity of it all. This is the first machine of this type I have owned, so I can not impart a comparison of any sort, but can say this machine is easy to use and makes a nice cup of expresso with ample crema. It also steams milk like a little champ. The unit is small and will not take up a lot of space on your counter. My expresso bean of choice is Lavazza.

Update: 11/22/2009 This little champ is still going strong and I have no complaints. Be sure to have a good grinder. When this machine goes to expresso maker heaven, I will buy another DeLonghi!

This machine is amazing! Makes great expresso! I bought this machine to replace a Breville that I was not completely happy with, as it made weak espresso and I needed to turn a knob to brew the correct amount. NOT WITH THIS MACHINE! Push a button and walk away, come back to a single or double shot. The water tank is easy to refill (I use a clean syrup bottle to refill it, instead of removing it). The frothing knob is hard to turn at first, but upon the 3rd or 4th use, it is fine. I do not find the frothing wand to be too low or drippy, after all it swivels over the drip tray, duh!!! This unit makes good coffee, which I knew and that’s why I bought it. But it’s a noisey little bugger. The pump is loud and causes the whole unit to vibrate and make noise, which is mildly disturbing and irritating when I press the button in the morning. I guess it doesn’t matter, but it would be a lot slicker if it were quiet and smooth. I previously had a bottom of the line model (not a Nespresso) and it’s pump behaved similarly, so I think it’s a matter of the pump, not anything being wrong. Still, I know the Swiss could engineer it quiet and smooth if they wanted to.
